This is my internship project at Mutual Mobile Inc. Our client BSX Athletics is a sport technology startup focusing on intelligent wearables for athlete training, BSXinsight is their core product. This project aimed at redesigning the user experience of BSX mobile APP and the website.
I was fully assigned to the project and mainly responsible for the interaction design of Assessment user flow, interaction design and visual design for the daily workout function, and the interaction redesign for BSX website's store front and e-commerce experience.
Traditionally, blood testing is required to get athlete's lactate threshold, which is really not a convenient and comfortable way.
Some people use heartrate monitor to estimate their lactate threshold, but that is not always accurate due to other factors.
BSXinsight wearable device is paired with BSX mobile APP to use. It has two main functions, Lactate Threshold (LT) Assessment is a "science in action" that requires user to strictly follow the instruction to get precise results. Daily Workout is for tracking every-day training performance. There are kinesiology concepts and various data in the APP that should be explained through the interaction design in order to help the athletes use the wearable technology in the right way.
The redesigned LT Assessment has 5 steps: dashboard, tutorial, setup, data presentation during assessment, and LT result
Combining the lactate threshold and the daily workout functions, BSXinsight enables the athlete users to establish a professional training plan. They can review the important physiological indices such as Muscle Oxygen Saturation (SmO2) to get a scientific perspective on the training strength. Based on their lactate threshold, the training zones will be presented to help user optimize the training effect.
BSX website functions as 3 roles: the product introduction and demonstration, the online store and the web-version dashboard where user can view and manage their data. Our redesign started with analyzing the information architecture, and then we applied interaction patterns to construct the information architecture as web interface. We largely simplified the user flow from learning product information to finishing the purchase.

Information archsitecture is not just about arranging the pieces of inforamtion here and there to keep the information flow make-sense, but also integrating the holistic user experience, detailed usability consideration and applying various interaction paradigms.
A Simplified
Storefront Flow
The redesign combines the user flow from home page to store front and product details into an integral and coherent interface.
Applying interaction to embrace and organize more content
BSXinsight has 3 editions focusing on 3 different user groups, they have differences but are mostly common. Instead of having a product list and separate product pages, we combined them into one page so they share the common information like Tech Specs and Use Case and we make those unique information like price and other details collapsable. The user flow for shopping is more clear and greatly simplified in this way.
